Stick Boy Mayview Madness 5k and Blue Ridge Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine 1 Mile Kids Run
The Stick Boy Mayview Madness 5k race was the largest 5k and 1 mile kids run in its 14-year history. Despite the fog, more than 360 runners, including children, participated in one of the most scenic runs in the country to support the Blue Ridge Conservancy. Blue Ridge Pediatrics sponsored the Kids Fun Run with 30 kids running the 1-mile race. Following the race, runners were treated to Stick Boy sticky buns, bananas from Earth Fare, and coffee from Bald Guy Brew. Mast General Store donated prizes raffled after the race.
Prizes were awarded to overall winners and winners in each category thanks to ZAP Fitness/Reebok, Bistro Roca, and Bald Guy Brew. All runners received a Footsloggers bag packed with goodies. MPrints provided the rust-colored, wicking short sleeved race shirts, which were a crowd favorite. StickBoy, Footsloggers, and Blowing Rock Brewing all provided coupons to enjoy after the race. Kids who ran the 1-mile fun run received a tubing gift certificate for 4 people from River Girl. Thanks to Hemlock Inn for providing room discounts for our overnight runners.
Pre-race training sessions on the five Wednesday evenings prior to the race were the best attended this year thanks to ZAP Fitness. Big Kahuna Timing and John Weaver provided the race time equipment, and Gary Butts served as our charismatic race announcer. Thank you all! We couldn’t have done it without the generosity of our volunteers, sponsors, and runners who made it possible. We are looking forward to making 2014 even better!
