Joseph Vogel granted a conservation easement with BRC in 2002 on his 280 acres, known as the Waterfalls Farm. The property is located in the Whitehead Township of Alleghany County, NC. The land consists of open fields and mature hardwood and pine forests, and the trail will lead hikers to Waterfalls Creek, a beautiful cascading waterfall. Views of Bullhead Mountain State Natural Area are visible from Dr. Vogel’s property. Early October will provide cooler weather, gorgeous fall colors, scenic vistas, and hawk migration sightings.
The hike is considered strenuous as it follows steep topography and rugged terrain to and from the base of the falls. Participants should wear sturdy hiking shoes, and bring a good walking stick, water, snacks, and rain gear. The duration of the hike will be approximately 2 hours (route options vary).
