FAQs about The Knob Project

What will the project involve and what are the benefits?

The acquisition of Howard Knob fulfills a long-held conservation goal, protecting a quality high-elevation oak forest while preserving the scenic beauty and cultural significance that Howard Knob holds for our community. Looking ahead, BRC plans to develop natural surface trails, including a section of the Northern Peaks State Trail (NPST), boulder access, and an NPST trailhead with parking to welcome visitors. We are in the early planning phases and will share updates as the project progresses. In the meantime, we ask that anyone curious about the property bear with us as we carefully plan the best way to welcome everyone to the Preserve.

How does this fit in with Watauga County's park at the top of the Knob?

BRC is not in charge of Howard Knob Park or the new sky bridge. They are separate properties.

BRC is actively working with Watauga County to create the best possible experience at Howard Knob for both our community members and visitors. With Howard Knob County Park and our nature preserve adjoining one another, each offering its own unique features and natural treasures, we see tremendous potential for collaboration and are excited about what that partnership can bring to the community.

How can you help?

We are so grateful for the community's support for the acquisition. We continue to fundraise for this next, crucial phase of the project, which will allow us to welcome our community to the property. Donations can be made to BRC.
