Blue Ridge Conservancy announces Giving Tuesday Challenge

Steve Wylie and Steve Duprey of Todd, NC believe that everyone can make a difference in our community and special corner of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Inspired by #GivingTuesday, they are issuing a $5,000 donor for dollar challenge to encourage others to join together on Tuesday, November 28th to support Blue Ridge Conservancy.

Blue Ridge Conservancy is a local nonprofit whose mission is to permanently protect mountain land, water, and provide recreational access throughout northwest North Carolina to improve the value of our communities.  If 100 people make an online gift of any amount to BRC from 6 am of #GivingTuesday to 6 am Wednesday, a $5,000 donation will be unlocked to advance BRC’s mission.

“What we value most about Blue Ridge Conservancy is that they are preserving critical aspects of the environment forever,” said Wylie.  “By participating in this #GivingTuesday challenge, your gift helps protect the Blue Ridge forever.”

Every donation of any amount in this 24-hour window will count toward the 100 donor goal.

“Giving Tuesday is a day to give back to what you value and our community’s participation is critical to help unlock this important gift,” said Blue Ridge Conservancy Executive Director Charlie Brady.

A donation to BRC is an investment in an effective and efficient grassroots organization.  For every $1 donated in the last twelve months for operations, BRC leveraged $11 resulting in an investment of $5.72 million for:

·Land Protection – Acquired 786 acres in 11 strategic locations, while monitoring and managing 180 conservation properties

·Public Land Expansion – Increased public access with 9 projects, including additions to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Over Mountain Victory Trail, and Elk Knob State Park

·Habitat Protection – Protected rare plants and amphibians at the Tater Hill Bog

·Middle Fork Greenway – Raised $2.7 million to construct 1.3 miles of trail and have an additional mile “shovel ready” to connect Blowing Rock to Boone with a 6.5-mile path

#GivingTuesday is a global giving movement that has been built by individuals, families, organizations, businesses, and communities in all 50 states and in countries around the world. This year, #GivingTuesday falls on November 28 to harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners to transform how people think about, talk about, and participate in the giving season. It inspires people to take collective action to improve their communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they believe in, and help create a better world. #GivingTuesday demonstrates how every act of generosity counts, and that they mean even more when we give together.
