Northern Peaks State Trail Awarded onX Adventure Forever Grant
Blue Ridge Conservancy (BRC) was recently awarded $25,000 from the onX Adventure Forever Grant program for the Three Top Mountain section of the Northern Peaks State Trail (NPST). This section is the longest contiguous segment of the NPST, traversing the south side of Three Top Mountain, a 3,100‑acre game land managed by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.
After an extensive biological review process, trail construction began in the summer of 2025 and is expected to be complete by the summer of 2027. The total distance will be approximately 12 miles of beautiful, natural‑surface trail. Portions of the trail will open before 2027, and BRC will share more information as soon as those segments are ready for public use.
“We are so thrilled to receive this generous grant from onX Maps,” says NPST Trail Coordinator Jordan Sellers. “This grant will go directly toward getting the NPST on the ground and expanding public access to a very special and awe‑inspiring mountain. I truly appreciate onX Maps’ commitment to supporting sustainable trail construction, conservation, and stewardship of our precious natural resources.”
In addition to the onX Adventure Forever Grant, the Three Top Mountain trail project has received funding from the NC Complete the Trails Program, a Recreational Trails Program grant, a Great Trails State Program grant, and generous support from private donors. BRC is continuing to fundraise for this project, with hopes of securing an additional $100,000 in the coming months.
